Introducing Bogdan Natakhin

“About two years ago I got a letter from a russian photographer with a wish to cooperate. The name Bogdan Natakhin sounded exotic to me and as I opened his linked portfolio, he’s artwork revealed to be just as magical. The pictures created an artsy, melancholic and even a bit creepy landscape that captured me right away.” opens up Tanel Veenre.

Bogdan has been with our brand since. In March we shared Tanel’s cold trip to Moscow to finally meet the young talent. Here below is a new interview with the photographer, made for the anniversary book Kingdom Of Dreams.

A fledgling Ukrainian photographer seeking poetic authenticity through the lens of his melancholy 120 mm camera.

Mis on sinu jaoks kunstis kõige olulisem?

Minu jaoks on kõige olulisemad hetked: kõik kõige olulisem koosneb hetkedest. Ma töötan vaid vanamoodsalt filmiga, seega on iga hetk minu jaoks eriline.

Iga samm, iga liigutus. Mind lummab ka loomulik ilu, just seepärast väldin magusat fotode retušeerimist.

Moefoto on tiimitöö tulemus.

teekonnale. Pole oluline, kas oleme varem koos töötanud või see on me esmakohtumine: me oleme üks. Kogemus on mind õpetanud kontrollima, millal teha nalja või lobiseda elust ja millal olla karmim. Olen loomult väga kohusetundlik ja valmistan enne pildistamist alati ette detailsed mood-board’id tiimi igale liikmele. Sellest hoolimata töötan endiselt koos meigikunstnikuga, kellega tegime esimese pildistamise.

Sa oled teinud meile kuus pildisarja. Milline neist on sinu jaoks kõige erilisem?

Millest praegu unistad?

Sisemisest harmooniast. Tahan võtta puhkust kommertsfotost, osta vana auto ja sõita päikeseloojangusse, kuulata muusikat kassetimängijalt ja teha peatusi, et tabada erilisi hetki, lihtsalt iseendale.

What is most essential for you in art? What impacts you the most?

For me, the main thing is the moments — all the most important things consist of moments. Since I work with film, every moment is special for me. The moment when everything freezes in anticipation of the created frame. The moment when I organize the boiling thoughts in my head, and harmonize on the set. The moment when I press the shutter button on my camera and it makes such an old and atmospheric metallic sound and I rewind the film to the next frame. It is from such seemingly trivial moments that the life of the Creator is formed.

What inspires you in a model?

Every step, every movement. Starting from the moment we meet a model on set and she says „Hello“ to me, is clenched or open and chatty — every moment affects the result and direction of creativity. Also, I am inspired by natural beauty, so I do not like glossy retouching on my works.

Creating a photo is teamwork. How do you choose your people?

Openness to new ideas is what unites us as a team. Starting from the moment when I tell a person about my idea and invite them to create with me. It doesn’t matter if I’ve worked with this person before or if this is our first shoot together — we work as a unit. With experience, I know when I can joke and talk about life, and when I should be hard on them. I take on a lot of responsibility, so I prepare a separate detailed mood board for each team member. And despite that, I still work with a makeup artist whom I met on my first fashion shoot in my life.

You have done 6 shoots for us – which of these is your favourite?

The most important thing for me visually and spiritually is our first shoot in 2018. The first acquaintance, trust, shared views, carefree moments of the beginning of my creative path, I was madly burned by this project. Unfortunately, then I began to fall into depression, commercial shooting, or rather the race for money began to spoil me, I became apathetic, emotionless. And only rare creative shootings brought me back to life.

What are you dreaming of now?

Finding harmony inside. I want to take a break from commercial photography, buy an old car and drive to sunset, listen to music on a cassette player and make stops to capture a unique moment on film just for yourself.

Collaboration with Bogdan begun already in 2018. See below the examples of previous visuals where color, glow, and sharply set focus bring unique life to product images.
